Blue Ribbon Zucchini Bread

Our recipe for Zucchini Bread came from Lola’s onetime neighbor Jane, a home baker and avid gardener. “Gardeners have to make this bread,” she said, “just to stop zucchini from taking over the earth!” When Lola was still baking from home, she entered Jane’s recipe into the Loudoun County Fair — and won a blue ribbon for best specialty bread. Now, powered by the bakery’s big mixers, our zucchini bread is a major force in zucchini population control. The recipe itself remains the same: We use farmers’ market zucchini and antioxidant-rich walnuts, and bake it up moist and delicious. Available from June through September.
