Let’s do it again! On May 3, jazz ensembles from the Catoctin School of Music will play from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. You’ll love these talented young musicians.

Come on out! It’ll be a lovely spring evening. This is what a town like Leesburg is all about.

Some of you were our very first customers. You bought our first-ever Ginger Chocolate Cookies. You cheered when I traveled to the Virginia State Fair, returning with blue ribbons. Your support meant everything to me.

The markets were smaller then, and so was Lola’s. There was no bakery; I baked everything in my tiny state-inspected home kitchen. We didn’t sell cupcakes, but many of your favorite items were already there, including Apricot Scones andChocolate Coconut Macaroons.

For five years, our family members made every single sale. Our children grew up at the market: James was born that first summer; many of you met him just two weeks old, fresh as the produce around him.

And you watched our business grow up, too. Shortly after the birth of Ginny, our second market baby, we opened our retail bakery, which was my dream all along.

Still we kept on doing the farmers’ market, because — well, because we loved it.

What we’ve always loved: The customers and the vendors and the early-morning weather and the colorful, natural food; the season’s cycle from asparagus to berries to corn to peaches to apples. That vital connection, to our own community and to centuries of tradition.

We’ve enjoyed every morning setting up beneath the brightening sky, just waiting for a stream of neighbors to arrive.

But after 11 years, it’s also become difficult. Two ever-busier outlets, just a quarter-mile apart, both with their unique challenges: It’s tough to do properly.

And so I’ve decided to focus our Saturday efforts on a single location: the bakery. Lola’s won’t be at the market this summer.

Here’s the plan. You’ll still go to the market, I hope. But right before, or right after, you’ll stop by Lola’s — just up the street.

Maybe you’ll relax on our new patio with a cup of coffee. It’s a great place to enjoy breakfast, and starting this week we’re open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Each week we’ll have the same breakfast goods we’ve always brought to the market. This week it’s Blueberry Muffins, Morning Glory Muffins, Apricot Scones,Cheddar-Chive Scones, and Date Scones with Orange Zest.

It’s sad for us to say goodbye to the market. But at the little bakery that you helped us to build, we’ll keep that same good feeling going.

Leesburg’s way-happening Flower & Garden Festival arrives this weekend, welcoming flower people from all over to groove on this once-a-year mix of amazing garden exhibits, great plant bargains, historic surroundings, food, music, and fun.

This is your time to chill out. Walk, don’t run. Get inspired, appreciate your town and the moment.

And when you’re ready for a break, join the scene at Lola’s. Our new patio is looking super-keen: It’s the perfect place to step out of the fray and relax with a cool drink and all-scratch munchies.

We have flowers, too: Flower Sugar Cookies, plus nine flavors of unadulterated, fresh-baked cupcake — seasonal specials like Ginger Orange, crowd-pleasers like Chocolate Vanilla, and year-round faves including Red Velvet and Coconut.

Remember, we open at 9 a.m. on Saturdays with scones, muffins, and coffee.

We’ll be closed on Sunday, enjoying the festival ourselves.

Offscreen she married the musical’s choreographer, Bob Fosse, and collaborated in many of his later hits — starring as Roxie Hart in the original production of Chicago, for example.

The other redhead she helped teach to dance: Rita Hayworth.
